VRCARE: VR training at the Model Vocational High School of Igoumenitsa, Greece

In February 2026, a training session on the use of Virtual Reality (VR) in teaching took place at the Model Vocational High School of Igoumenitsa, Greece. The activity focused on the pedagogical transformation of vocational education through immersive digital tools.

The initiative was implemented as part of the dissemination strategy of the Erasmus+ KA220-VET project VRCARE: Modernizing Healthcare Pedagogy with Virtual Reality for Interaction, Ethics, Stimulation and Sensory (Project Code: 2024-1-FI01-KA220-VET-000249151), funded by the European Union. The project aims to modernise educational approaches in the Health sector.

The session was hosted in the laboratory facilities of the Laboratory Centre of Igoumenitsa, kindly provided by its Director, Mr. Ilias Bouas. Twelve teachers participated and received detailed guidance on both the pedagogical and technical aspects of using VR headsets in vocational education.

Participants tested educational VR applications and explored how virtual scenarios can support professional subjects, especially in the Health, Welfare and Wellbeing sector. Discussions focused on two key areas: the potential of virtual simulations to develop professional skills in a safe learning environment, and the conditions required for sustainable integration into daily teaching practice, including staff training and adequate technical support.

The event was attended by the Education Quality Supervisor of the Directorate of Secondary Education of Thesprotia, Mr. Nikolaos Babas, and the School Director, Mr. Panagiotis Koliiousis, highlighting the importance of structured training and organised innovation in schools.

This initiative confirms that strong collaboration between schools, administrative bodies, and laboratory structures can create a solid foundation for the digital modernisation of vocational education.

VRCARE project has received support from the Erasmus+ program.
