The VRCARE project will change how healthcare training works by using the power of technology. Recently, COMCY visited the Materia Group in Cyprus to see how virtual reality (VR) will help in a real care setting. As a provider of nursing & rehabilitation services, Materia Group was the perfect place to pilot these new VR scenarios.
During this visit, healthcare professionals used VR headsets to enter a digital world. This brought practice-based learning directly into the hospital & care home environment. Instead of just reading about care, the staff could experience everyday situations from a completely different angle.
- Ethical Decisions: The VR scenarios will allow staff to practice making hard choices in a safe space.
- Sensitive Interactions: Professionals will navigate difficult conversations with patients & families without any real-world risk.
- Reflective Space: The immersive format will create a protected environment where carers can pause, observe, & think carefully about their work.
The team at Materia Group brought a lot of experience & sensitivity to the session. Their feedback will be very important for the future of the VRCARE project. The discussions after the pilot showed that experiential learning will be a very strong tool for strengthening the quality of care.
The openness & professionalism of the Materia team underlined how relevant VR-based training will be across the entire care sector. It is clear that this technology will give carers the confidence & skills they need to support their patients even better.
We would like to say a big thank you to the Materia team for their trust & meaningful engagement throughout this process. Your help will ensure that the VRCARE project will lead to better training & better care for everyone.
The initiative was implemented as part of the dissemination strategy of the Erasmus+ KA220-VET project VRCARE: Modernizing Healthcare Pedagogy with Virtual Reality for Interaction, Ethics, Stimulation and Sensory (Project Code: 2024-1-FI01-KA220-VET-000249151), funded by the European Union. The project aims to modernise educational approaches in the Health sector.
